Asamoah Gyan opened his season’s account in the French top flight on a weekend of few thrills for Ghanaian players abroad. The Stade Rennes striker scored from the spot in the first half to get his first league goal for the club in their game against Nice before being substituted on 76 minutes. The goal would have done Gyan’s confidence a world of good but Rennes would require much more of him after injuries blighted his first season at the club. Elsewhere in France, Moussa Narry who was a regular for Auxerre only watched from the bench as his side went down 0-2 away to RC Lens. The English Premiership got underway on Saturday with a familiar story for all of Ghana’s three representatives. Richard Kingson is out injured at Wigan but he rarely got to play last season. John Paintsil meanwhile was a Fulham regular and he was back at his favourite right back position for the Londoners in their 1-0 win on the road at Portsmouth. Michael Essien also played for 90 minutes as Chelsea struggled to beat Hull City 2-1. In Germany, Isaac Vorsah played for 74 minutes as Bayer Leverkusen beat Hoffenheim 1-0. Elsewhere Isaac Boakye was pulled off after 56 minutes in Nurenburg’s 1-1 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt. In Holland both Nana Kwasi Asare and Francis Dickoh played in Utrecht FC’s 2-2 draw at home to Venlo. It gives Utrecht seven points out of their opening three games. Kwame Quansah played for 90minutes for Heracles Almelo in their 0-1 loss at home to Feyernood Rotterdam while Eric Addo’s Roda JC drew 1-1 at home to Nijmegen with the Ghanaian playing the entire duration of the game. Samuel Inkoom played their entire game in Switzerland but his FC Basle side were 1-3 losers in the big derby game against Grasshoppers in Zurich. Source: Kickoff.com
