Nigeria international striker Obafemi Martins has said fierce competition for first-team places at German champions Wolfsburg can only make him a better player.
Martins teamed up with Wolfsburg after Newcastle United were relegated last season, and he now has to battle the club's top strikers, Edin Dzeko and Grafite, to get in the first team.
"I know that Edin Dzeko and Grafite are excellent strikers. However, we will all get the chance to prove our worth," he said in an interview published by the Nigerian sports daily, Complete Sports.
"In fact, I am happy to come to a team with a lot of quality strikers. The two are among the best in Germany. The competition for shirts can only make me improve as a player."
Martins said his switch to Germany was a good move for him.
"I am happy I made the right move for my career," said Martins, who has netted two goals in the Bundesliga thus far.
"The players and officials here are also more serious than those at Newcastle. The quality of football here is also higher that what I witnessed since I joined Newcastle from Inter Milan.
"Wolfsburg have the best team in Germany and it's a good thing that the city is a relatively small one. That will help me concentrate on football."
