Twenty out of the 75 senior high schools in the Volta Region are without a substantive headmaster, Mr Emmanuel Keteku, the Ho Municipal Director of Education, has said.
Speaking at the launch of the Silver Jubilee celebration of Desiadenyo Club, a Ho based social club on Wednesday, he said the situation was worse in basic schools in the region and appealed to stakeholders in education to help resolve the ever reducing number of experienced educators.
Mr Keteku said some years ago the Volta Region was “exporting teachers to other regions but now does not have enough for itself, let alone for export and is also finding it difficult to import into the region.”
He,therefore, appealed to the Desiadenyo Club and similar groups to double their efforts to reverse the region’s dwindling fortunes in education.
Mr Keteku commended Desiadenyo Club for establishing an Education Endowment Fund but urged the club to do more to help raise the standard of education in the municipality.
Mr Edwin Gamadeku, President of Ho Lions Club who was the Guest of Honour, expressed displeasure about the rising number of street children in the municipality.
The Regional Director of the Department of Children, Mr Gamadeku, appealed to social clubs in the municipality to help address the issue before it manifested in rise in criminal activity.
