The enigmatic Okomfo Kwadee made an emotional return to the big stage Saturday night, settling the lingering doubts over his career and setting the hearts of several hundreds 'alight' during his ‘Mea Me Nie’ concert to re-launch his career.
Apparently thirsting after their long-time-no-hear idol, the sizeable crowd that turned out for the ‘great comeback’ concert at the National Theatre in Accra were all standing and getting jiggy for the about an hour-and-a- half that Kwadee performed to cap the long night of great entertainment.
A galaxy of musicians, among them Bradez, Okyeame Kwame, Echo, Asaase Aban, Ayigbe Edem, Mad Fish, Nii, Samini, KK Fosu, Konfi, Joe Frazer, Dadie, H-Mode, and from Nigeria, Flavour with his Ashawo hit, had done more than enough to excite the house.
And then Master of Ceremonies, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) would usher in the main act. The stage goes up in ‘smoke’ as the auditorium dims briefly, only to return with a man bearing a mini banner announcing “WELCOME BACK”. The bearer turned out to be Kwaw Abodam Kese.
And then Okomfo follows up, zipped up in a leather jacket embossed with a golden butterfly and the inscriptions, REFINED TIMES. Underneath the jacket was a bright-green T-shirt showing emblems of Jamaican and Ethiopian association – a bold red, gold and green flag with a big leaf, his hair kempt and spotting his trademark goatee and whiskers.
Kwadee (who was later to be joined on stage by Obuor) took his fans on a journey into the recent past, zapping through a good number of his songs that played so freely on radio when he was hot some four years ago - ‘Abrantee’, ‘Kwaadee’, ‘Ka Wo Nan Toso’, ‘Okomfo Si Koo’, ‘P1’ and his concert theme, ‘Mea Me Nie’, (here I am) to announce his return and declaration that he is going to get ‘things’ hotter. The fans loved what they got and were with him through the songs.
