Family members are having a hard time finding a burial place for a suspected armed robber after two communities opposed attempts to bury the lynched young man there.

The deceased was one of the two suspected criminals who were set on fire after they were beaten to pulp by angry Jirapa residents on Sunday.

The lynching of the two, according to Upper West Region Correspondent, Rafiq Salam, was based on suspicions they had been terrorising the community for some time now.

At Jirapa in the Upper West region, the family stopped from digging a grave, after strong resistance from some opinion leaders and youths.

They cannot accept that the remains of a notorious armed robber should be buried in the community.

The deceased was moved to Babile in the Lawra district believed to be his hometown.

“When he got there they said he was not from Babile”, a witness told regional correspondent Rafiq Salam.

Residents and some youth on motorbikes stormed the burial site to protest the decision of the landlord to allow the burial.

Many said they knew of the deceased and remembered his many robberies. They said he robbed his defenceless victims on numerous occasions at gun point. He used to steal monies and livestock.

They recalled how the deceased whilst alive was chased out of Babile following a suspected robbery.

The family have been directed to try burying him in his grandfather’s hometown at Nandom.

Meanwhile two others who survived the initial mob attack are receiving medical attention at the Wa regional hospital. They are in critical condition.
