Best Performer winner at the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA), Ghana's Samini, says he feels challenged to do more by the honour done him by the award and he will not disappoint.
Samini, who won his first international music award in 2006 at the Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards after amassing virtually all awards available locally, told Joy FM's Super Morning Show on Tuesday that he now feels recognized that all his sweat has not been in vain.
Samini, who said he speaks nine Ghanaian languages, featured in the 2007 MTV Europe Music Award and the 2008 MTV Africa Music Awards.
He told Super Morning Show host, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah that 'the Grammy' is what he intends 'to catch' rather than slip into oblivion as many have done in the past when such great honours come to them.
Samini was nominated for the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards Best Performer category alongside D-Banj, P-Squared and Nameless and said while he sees live performances as a challenge to be in tune with his audiences, miming comes to him somewhat as cheating.
He was not too surprised to have won the award; for he had seen the other nominees perform and he was hopeful he was also not doing badly at all.
"It's a challenge to me to live up to what's been expected of me and this is like it's going to let people research more about Samini so it's up to me to add more on board to what I do that makes me stand out as an outstanding performer."
He plans a nationwide tour to perform live concerts before Christmas, and he said even though the tour is a bit behind schedule as a result of several interruptions and commitments, it will definitely come off before the year is over.
