Ace comedian Asonaba Kwaku Darko, popularly known as Super O.D., says if given the opportunity to relive his life he would still take to comedy.
Super O.D. was a panelist on a special Topsy-turvyedition of the Super Morning Show on Joy 99.7 FM on Thursday.
The 75-year-old father of 14 said acting has largely paid off and that he would resist any temptation to do some other job if he is to live life again.
Originally trained as a driver, Super O.D. says he has been doing acting all his life and says it’s been worth being into acting and comedy.
For the celebrated comedian, money must never be the attraction to pursue any endeavour in life but a good name. He has travelled the world over all on the wheels of comedy and acting, he disclosed.
What perhaps was most touching in his interview with hosts of the show – Matilda Asante and Big Scoob – was his expression of loneliness after the death of his best friend and fellow-comedian, Waterproof, who passed away recently.
He spoke of the signature tune for the television show Cantata on GTV as only a reminder of the deaths of his colleagues. Hearing it saddens him, he said.
Super O.D. performed key roles in Cantata with many actors who have, over the years passed on, one after the other.
Asked if he was afraid to die, Super O.D. responded in the negative and insisted he would rather be ruptured away.
“I know that everybody will die but not [as quickly as] that. Only I… will vanish [from] the world,” he said.
On his thoughts on the Ghanaian music industry, the comedian scored Ghana 5 on a scale of 1 to 10, saying the promoters and directors of the movies are always unwilling to pay good money to talents and professionals.
Although he rates Nigeria as doing great in the movies, he believes their themes have only been dominated by voodooism and crime – which are not good enough.
