Some junior doctors say they are yet to receive their eleven months’ salary arrears despite assurances that they would be paid Wednesday.
The doctors made the claim a few hours after Employment and Labour Relations Minister Haruna Iddrisu told Joy News 64 out of 91 junior doctors have been paid.
Haruna Iddrisu said GH¢542,895.12 has been transferred to pay for the salary arrears of the 64 doctors.
However, spokesperson for the junior doctors, Nana Kisi Atefah, said only 10 of them have been paid as at close of day Wednesday.
“We are told the Bank of Ghana has made payments to our banks…we are being told delays are as a result of differences in payment systems at the various banks and that the banks are confirming with [Controller and Accountant General’s Department]. We are hoping all these technicalities would be resolved so that by Friday everybody would be paid”, he said.
Junior doctors at the 37 Military Hospital, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Volta Regional Hospital are among those who will receive their salary arrears.
The 91 affected doctors who have been working for the past 11 months without salary left the consulting rooms and picketed at the Accountant General's Department.
They threatened to withdraw their services completely if their salaries were not paid.
They had been crying for months for the payment of their salaries but their protests did not yield any results.
