President John Mahama says work can now begin on the 22 kilometer road from Kasae to Ada.

Mr Mahama conceded the project has delayed but explained it was because of the ongoing Ada sea defense project.

“One of the major challenges to tourism in this area is the road leading from Kasae to Ada but as I announced when I last visited Ada, the contractor on the project is already mobilising and is ready to commence work on the road.

“We had to delay work on the road for a very good decision that is because the sea defence project was still ongoing and the contractor had to move heavy boulders along the road to the sea side and we realised that if we went ahead with the road construction, the movement of those heavy boulders will destroy the road by the time it is completed but now that they’ve finished with the movement the contractor is ready to start”.

The project is a full asphalt road and will cost 27 million cedis.

The president was speaking at the annual Asafotufiam festival in Ada in the Greater Accra region.

Meanwhile, Roads Minister Inusah Fuseini has expressed dissatisfaction on the safety works being undertaken on the Madina-Adenta highway.

Mr. Fuseini told Joy News aside the project delaying, he has realised the contractors are using substandard materials which can pose a threat to users.

“I’m not happy that work has delayed and I’m also not happy that they appear to be using sub standard materials for the construction of the boxes to contain the cables for the traffic light”.

He also questioned why the contractor has not involved local experts in the project.

“Local content provision demands that they contract part of the project to local contractors to do and we have got experts in doing traffic signals and that is why I have asked them to stop the work, produce the designs for me and my technical men to vet. That will inform what further decision to take.”
