Families of the late Upper East Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Adams Mahama and that of the murder suspect, Gregory Afoko clashed in court today when the case was called.
According to Joy News’ Felix Akoyam, both families hurled insults at each other as the suspect was being escorted out of the court.
But for the timely intervention of the security officials, the fracas that lasted for about 30 minutes would have degenerated into a bloody clash.
Meanwhile, the court has denied the bail application brought by the defendant.
The court, presided over by Justice Ken Okaibi, said the bail was denied because there was sufficient evidence connecting Afoko to the murder.
He ordered that the suspect be kept behind bars until a final determination is made is made on the matter.
A forensic examination conducted by the Ghana Standards Authority has shown that a substance found on the clothing of Afoko was sulphuric acid, the same poured on the late NPP Chairman.
Earlier a gallon of the same substance was found in the room of another suspect who is currently on the run.
Gregory Afoko is standing trial for the murder of Adams Mahama.
