The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Adom/Asempa Division of the Multimedia Group, Mr. Klaus Vonbackustein, is demanding the immediate arrest of political party fanatics who assaulted a broadcast journalist of the group.
The broadcast journalist, Kwaku Antwi, was assaulted Friday afternoon at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national headquarters while on official assignment.
The journalist subsequently filed a report at the Nima Divisional Police Headquarters where he was directed to seek medical attention.
Kwaku Antwi then went to the Trust Hospital at Osu where he was examined, treated and discharged.
Mr. Vonbackustein says this is one assault too many on broadcast journalists doing their legitimate duty in the name of the Adom/Asempa Division.
He recounted similar assaults on Dominic Kissi Yeboah and Kofi Adomah, also at the NPP headquarters in November 2008 during the run-up to the general elections. Sub-Editor of Adom FM, Afia Pokuaa was also assaulted during the NPP congress in 2009 at the Trade Fair Center.
Mr. Vonbackustein insists that, until the police takes action by arresting the culprits in the latest assault on Kwaku Antwi, other journalists will continue to suffer similar fate at the hands of thugs operating in the name of political parties.
Signed,
Klaus Vonbackustein
