Fifteen brilliant but needy students were on Wednesday awarded full scholarships for their senior high school education programmes by the Multimedia Group Ltd.
The scholarship, awarded under the MGL’s Educare Trust Fund, covers full payment of school fees and other utilities for the entire SHS programme, plus a living allowance paid every term to enable the beneficiaries cater for their basic personal needs.
The beneficiaries are Kingsley Ampofo and Claudia Afi Apenuzonya from the Chemu Senior High School; Emmanuel Kwesi Arthur of Eguafo-Abirem SHS; Evelyn Ofosua and Francis Otu Kyei of Kibi Sec Tech; Emmanuel Doku of Klo-Agogo SHS; Doris Adukwei Awulley and Eugenia Akpey of Ningo SHS; Karim Mansur and Grace Acquaye both of Obrachire Sec. Tech.
The rest are Maurice Boye of Osudoku Sec. Tech; Michael Tetteh Nyemingor and Margaret Agyeman of St. Stephen SHS as well as Osborn Atter Osiosey and Sayidatu Yakubu of Yilo Krobo SHS.
Speaking at a brief awards ceremony, the Chairman of the Multimedia Group Limited Educare Trust Fund, Very Rev. Ama Afo Blay, explained that the scholarship scheme goes to support academically brilliant but needy students to see through their education. It also aims at supporting the development of the country’s human resource base.
She advised the beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity given them “to develop themselves, their families and mother Ghana.”
She also reminded the students of the need to take their education seriously and make good use of the internet in their studies. She warned them however against the viewing of pornographic sites and using it for ‘sakawa’.
She indicated that the scholarship scheme intended to award scholarships to about 20 students this year, however some schools failed to respond to invitations to nominate students and called on school authorities to respond positively to future invitations.
The award on Wednesday brings to 25, the number of students whose education is being sponsored under the scheme. The MGL Educare Trust Fund was established in 2008.
Also present at the awards ceremony were authorities or representatives of beneficiaries’ schools, school mates of the beneficiaries, MGL CEO Kwasi Twum and other MGL Board members, as well as managers of the MGL Educare Trust Fund.
