Simon Cowell is approaching this year's series of Britain'S Got Talent in a "very different way" to the 2009 season - because he's concerned the applicants could have a similar breakdown to Susan Boyle. The Scottish singing sensation rose to fame with her extensive vocal range and finished second on the show last June, but was admitted to a London clinic just a day after the final showdown, suffering from exhaustion. Cowell also came under fire for not providing psychological care for contestants when 10-year-old Hollie Steel burst into tears during a show last year. Earlier this week it was reported that Cowell has hired a team of therapists to provide a 24-hour phone support service for applicants during the process. And the music mogul is adamant he won't let any of this year's contenders even enter the contest if he thinks they won't be able to cope with the pressure of their newfound fame. Cowell has revealed that in the upcoming auditions, producers will try to determine whether the applicants will be able to deal with the attention before judges choose whether to give them the go ahead or not. He says, "Because of what happened last year with Susan, we are aware of what can happen to people. So 12 months later you approach it in a very, very different way and you are aware that pressure can do all sorts of things to people. "You are hyper, hyper aware of any audition you do. You have to feel they can cope with what is coming if you put them through. They are under massive, massive scrutiny now and it is one of those things." But The X Factor star is still pleased he let Boyle enter the competition, because she is now living her dream: "I'm glad I gave Susan the opportunity. I wouldn't change that because we are helping her live her dreams, we are giving her a shot." The new series of Britain's Got Talent starts on Saturday night. Source: orange news
