Huawei Technologies Ghana has handed over a newly refurbished Children’s library and exhibition hall to the Accra Main Library Authority to complete the second phase of renovation works on the Accra Library.
The renovation works which cost five hundred thousand cedis (500,000) is expected to make learning easy for children who visit the library.
The renovation, according to Managing Director of Huawei, Russell Xu, follows news stories on the poor state of the country’s main library after which Huawei decided to come to the aid of the Ghana Library Authority.
‘‘On the 7th July 2014, Huawei and Ghana library signed a memorandum of understanding where Huawei agreed to renovate the reference hall, reading and computer room. We went ahead and delivered on our promise and on the 17th of December that same year by handing over the refurbished halls as well as an ICT room with over 30 computers. This is the phase two agreement and we have successfully refurbished the children's library," he explained.
Deputy Communications Minister Ato Sarpong commended Huawei for being socially responsible and assured government’s continuous commitment to support the telecommunications sector.
Vodafone Ghana has meanwhile supported the Huawei project with 20 computers to stock the library.
