Three more persons have been arrested in connection with the stolen Black Stool from the palace of Antoa in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti region.
The number brings to eight the number of suspects arrested after five were arrested, the Kenyase District Police Commander, DSP Emmanuel Adu Boahen confirmed to Joy News.
He told Joy News, the traditional leaders in the area are not sure when the theft exactly occurred.
The story broke on November 17th, 2015 that some thieves broke into the palace of Antoa and made away with some gold ornaments and the sacred black stool.
The Police Commander revealed that the last time any of the elders went to the strong room of the indigenous god, Antoa Nyama, was about four years ago.
Joy News’Ohemeng Tawiah reported that the elders are unhappy with the intervention of the police.
They say the deity which they discovered in 1862 is singularly powerful enough to find the culprits without state support.
They suspect the intervention by the police may be impeding the speed with which the deity would have meted out justice since the incident happened three weeks ago.
The elders are also unhappy at the interest of journalists whom they accuse of bringing the name of the town into disrepute.
This incident threw the entire town into a state of shock. The chiefs and elders in the town quickly went to the Manhyia palace to formally brief the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II about the incident.
Rituals were also performed at the dreaded Antoa Nyamaa shrine to complement police efforts in the search for the burglars of the stolen item.
The ritual might be yielding results as five new accomplices are in the grips of the Kenyase police.
Kenyase District Police Commander, DSP Emmanuel Adu Boahen indicated that the finger prints of the suspects have been taken for forensic audit and with the arrested persons granted bail pending investigations.
Ohemeng Tawiah noted that some of the residents were confident the stolen black stool will be found.
