Last Saturday at the Goethe Institute, one Ghanaian contemporary music group holding high the flag of Ghana internationally launched their much anticipated album, ‘Amewuga’ meaning 'Human beings are worthy than money'. The 15-track album which has well-composed tracks like; Tamale, Amewuga, Alafia, The Spirit of Africa, Why Why Go, Tayele and others the group, led by Dela Botri say the album embodies African unity and the worth of our local music. The album is the second from the group after the first one, 'Trema' was released in 2003. Hewale Sounds has already made name in local and international circles where they have performed at major state functions and also held various workshops and teachings in some countries on Ghanaian music and instruments. The launch coincided with the 2010 EU Week celebrations in Ghana which was held from May 4 to May 9 and was well attended with the president of Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) president Diana Hopson, Amandzeba Nat Brew, Wanlov Kubolor and M3nsa in attendance. The official launch was preceded by performance from young unearthed talents who warmed up the stage for the main attraction Dela Botri and the 14-man Hewale Sounds. When the Hewale Sounds finally mounted the stage dressed in fashionable local attires, they instantly threw the venue into a party one clearly displaying their sheer excellence when it comes to music and instruments. Their performance was divided into two phases with the first part introducing the the group to the audience after which the MUSIGA president delivered a brief statement acknowledging the Hewale Sounds as a torch-bearer of Ghanaian music. She called on all to show patronage for indigenous music to help sustain the local music industry. The album was formally launched after her statement and followed by the auctioning of the album.
