While Ghana has largely achieved the ten per cent budgetary allocation for agriculture under the Maputo agreement, concerns have been raised about the equity in the distribution of the budgetary resources.
There are fears women, and small scale farmers who constitute the largest chunk of food crop producers in the country have been left out in the budgetary allocation.
There is also a bigger concern that average growth in the agric sector is rather dwindling despite the increase in budgetary allocation.
These and many concerns are what will engage the attention of the Agric Minister Fifi Kwetey and other players in the industry at a forum to be organised by SEND Ghana in conjunction with the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana.
The two-day forum scheduled on December 16 and 17, 2015 at the La Palm Beach Hotel will also discuss the agriculture policy.
A statement issued by the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana prior to the Agriculture Forum, touted the threefold importance of agric to the development of the country as- a driver of poverty reduction, engine for economic growth and livelihood towards food security.
Outlining the importance of the forum, the PFAG said it will bring together key stakeholders to discuss some of the teething problems affecting the industry.
Key amongst them will be advocacy for an investment for small holder agriculture development and an opportunity to review Ghana's performance of the Maputo declaration.
The forum will discuss key areas in agriculture including, the role of Non State Actors and Donors in achieving the AAGTs and agricultural related SDGs, public investment in key areas of agriculture etc.
