The Vice President of IMANI Ghana says there is the potential for violence in Ghana if the current "useless" government expenditure does not stop.
Whilst he does not call for violence, nor will he support any, Kofi Bentil told Joy News the current generation who did not witness the level violent coup d’états in the and 60s and 80s may be tempted to take the law into their own hands if the perceived corruption in the country persisted.
His comments follow the outpouring of anger on the Joy FM's Super Morning Show, Thursday over some financial scandals the government is embroiled in.
Just when the controversy over the 510 million dollars worth of AMERI deal to provide 10 gas plants to Ghana appeared to be settling, another scandal, a 3.6 million cedis said to have been expended by government on branding of some buses broke.
Many of the people who called into this mornings programme were angry about the expenditures.
One of the callers could not control her emotions as she burst out in tears, worrying about the future of the country.
Kofi Bentil said this "woman's tears can turn into violence" if care is not taken.
His regret is that nobody has been punished in the past for approving this “useless expenditure”.
He said there is "zero consequence for things" like this which then emboldens people to continue behaving like this.
