Police in the Greater Accra Region say they are deploying more personnel to new developing areas in the metropolis as part of efforts to curb crime in the capital city.
The move follows many armed robbery attacks in area like Amanfro and Klagon, all at the outskirts of Accra.
Robberies in these areas have left many residents injured and others maimed for life.
In an interview with Joy News, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, COP George Dampare said the administration is collaborating with government to build suitable police posts in such communities.
“We are strategizing and we are looking at getting as many officials as possible to these areas. We are in here to fight crime so we must do it dynamically by making sure that where there is no problem we can probably scale down the resources that we have and move them to the emerging places where there are problems.
“And this is exactly what we are going to do. You look at the resources that you have and set your priorities right to bring peace and security to the environment,” he added.
Dr Dampare also called on residents of the various communities to assist in putting up police posts.
He indicated that although it is government’s responsibility to provide security for its people. “it will not be out of place if any community comes on board to do that in support of government but it will not be a mandatory thing for a community.”
He said police personnel are ready, at all times, to assist residents who are under attack.
He also encouraged the public to get police emergency numbers on their finger tips and call the police as soon as they find themselves in trouble.
