Mr George Agyemang Dua, Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive (DCE), on Friday presented 426,686 exercise books and 200 pre-cut school uniforms to the District Directorate of Education for distribution to schools in the area. The pre-cut uniforms will be sown by local tailors and dressmakers. Mr Dua asked school children to learn hard as they were the future leaders. He said government's agenda of investing in people was on course and budgetary allocation for the education sector was high, citing for example the 50 percent increase in capitation grant. The DCE said the presentation of the free uniforms and exercise books were in fulfilment of the government's promise to develop the human resource base of the country. He said school infrastructure were being developed and six schools in the district were to benefit from six-unit classroom blocks each under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND). Mr Duah said government was expanding the school feeding programme to bring more schools on board. The community teaching assistant module under the national youth employment programme had engaged some Senior High school leavers to assist in teaching in the rural and deprived communities. He promised that the District Assembly was to collaborate with the education directorate to sponsor brilliant but needy students at teacher training colleges to serve the district on completion of their courses. Mr Duah commended teachers for their dedication to duty and urged them to sustain it adding that the government had incentive packages for them, especially those in the rural and deprived communities. Mrs Rosemond Abrah, District Director of Education, who received the items, thanked the government for the gesture. She urged parents not to shirk their parental responsibilities towards their children and encouraged the children to study hard. Mrs Sabina Jones, Chairperson of the District Assembly's Education Sub-committee said the presentation should help improve education since it could assist, especially the poor to send their wards to school. The Chairman for the occasion, Barima Amoah Bosompem, Subihene, asked the District Education Directorate to monitor the work of teachers to ensure they performed their duties. Source: GNA
