For their roles in the popular TV series, “About to Wed”, Ghanaian acts Beverly Afaglo and John Dumelo have been nominated for the Best Actress and Best Actor awards categories of the Terracotta Awards which comes off on Saturday, 19th July at Lagos, Nigeria.
Prince David Osei and Yvonne Okorie also got nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Actress categories respectively for their roles in the same series. The series itself was nominated for the Best Comedy, Best Writing and Best Ensemble Cast awards bringing to 7, the number of nominations for the series.
Terracotta Awards, which prides itself as the first Film and Television award in Nigeria seeks to honour excellence, creativity and potential on Nigerian television.
Though it has over the years been limited to entries from Nigeria, the Ghanaians got their nominations due to the highly popular status of the series in Nigeria. It shows on three TV station as well as on African Magic (DS TV). The series was produced by a Nigerian firm, Hot Shot Production.
In separate interviews with Hi Newspaper, both John and Beverly expressed their elation at the nomination. For Beverly, it is a wonderful feeling for her to get her first taste of nomination since she came into the movie industry some four years ago.
She said, “I thank God for the nomination though I’m not surprised at it. I hardly walk in Nigeria without 1 out of 4 people recognizing me. Yet in Ghana, people hardly recognize me, and so, I’m not surprised my first nomination is in Nigeria”.
Beverly added that, “Though, I don’t know who I’m competing with, I am hopeful to win”. She went ahead to narrate how she jumped with joy when she first received the call from Nigeria telling her about the nomination. She could not contain the joy and so she quickly logged on to the internet to confirm and called John immediately to tell him.
John decided to take a religious turn by saying, “I thank God for this nomination and I leave it in his hands to decide whether I win or not.” John is the current Joy FM's Best Actor and an AMAA nominee.
Both he and Beverly told Hi they would be in Lagos for the awards.
