The growing influence of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on formal education calls for new management strategies towards a perfect blend between the old classroom instructional technologies and the emerging ICT based-version.
This would require supportive infrastructure to assist teachers to adapt to the new instructional technologies.
Mr Emmanuel Keteku, Ho Municipal Director of Education, made the suggestion at the speech and prize-giving day of Tanyigbe-Atidze Basic Schools in the Ho Municipal area.
He said an array of new tools such as projectors, laptops, desktop computers, video cameras and video conferencing were gradually replacing the traditional tools such as paper, pen, chalk-board and laboratories in facilitating teaching and learning.
Mr Keteku said the new technology, defined by the Association for Education Communication and Technology, (CAECT) as the theory and practice of design, development of processes, and resources for learning, have the advantage of increasing access and quality of learning by linking larger numbers of learners, schools and resources in a richer, more effective distributed learning environment.
Mr Keteku said teachers who travel frequently because of other commitments would now be able to connect with their students and colleagues via video conferencing from any part of the world.
He added that with the new technology, educators now have access to numerous resources to support their instructions by accessing the internet.
