The Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Alhaji (Dr.) Asoma Banda, has expressed his readiness to source funding for improving infrastructural development at the various campuses of the university to enable UEW to perform its core business of producing quality teachers for the nation. He said this when he paid a visit to the Winneba campus of the university, as part of his familiarisation tour of the satellite campuses of the university at Winneba, Kumasi and Asante Mampong. Addressing a meeting with the management and faculty members of the university, which was also attended by the deans, directors and some heads of departments, Alhaji Banda disclosed that he had concluded plans with the Galilee College in Israel and another school in Slovenia, to enable DEW to offer postgraduate trilateral Executive MA in Educational Management. The meeting discussed infrastructural development, sourcing of funds, establishment of a UEW Fund in the United Kingdom, scholarship schemes and linkages with foreign universities. Alhaji Banda announced that a fund had been set up in the UK, on behalf of the university, to source funding to undertake development projects and also help brilliant but needy students. He urged the management to give attention to the music department to promote indigenous African music, adding that this would help attract foreign students, especially people in the Caribbean and Americas to trace their root of ancestors. Alhaji Banda, who is also a member of the Council of State, hinted that he was in talks with some financial institutions in the country to build a state of the art hostel with facilities for the UEW to help solve student accommodation problems while on campus. This, he noted, would enable the university to increase student intake and also turn out more qualified teachers needed for the nation's educational development. Alhaji Banda commended the bold steps taken by the management of the university to undertake numerous developmental projects and urged them to continue with it. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, on behalf of management and staff, expressed gratitude to the chancellor for the visit and assured him of management's preparedness to help him carry out his plans to better the lot of DEW.
