Kumasi Mayor, Kojo Bonsu has been touting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s development in Ashanti region as unparalleled and wants the citizenry to be the judge.
In response to questions raised concerning prioritizing the needs of the people of Kumasi on Joy FM's Super Morning roadshow in Kumasi, Friday, Mr Bonsu said the Mahama-led administration has started a development crusade that will leave a positive imprint on the minds of the people.
He cited the $298 million Kejetia Central Market redevelopment project as a single biggest investment to ever happen to Kumasi.
“The ultra-modern market will have state of the art fire alert system, fire hydrants, smoke and fire detectors and a fire response squadron station at the market to end the perennial fire outbreaks there,” he said.
Mr. Bonsu said government is doing this to expand the trade frontiers of Kumasi and to reduce congestion within the city centre.
The first phase of the about 10,000 store capacity market is expected to be ready by the close of this year.
Other markets including three at Atonsu Agogo, Asawase and Tafo all in Kumasi are expected to be completed in June this year.
He noted that though widely criticized early on, the Rattray Park has in its early days showed enormous strength in its revenue generating capacity.
The Kumasi Mayor was emphatic that though the Ashanti region has been touted as the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the NDC governments will continue to pursue projects in the area of trade, education, health and roads that will leave an imprint on the minds of voters.
Speaking to Luv News on the sidelines of the Super Morning show roadshow in Kumasi, Mr. Bonsu also hinted plans are far advanced to conduct a pacification ceremony to appease the Chief of Tafo who was recently assaulted in the Tafo riots.
This will pave the way for the lifting of the curfew there.
