Cracks in the Manhyia North branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) continues to deepen as polling station and constituency executives threaten chaos if any attempt is made to carry out a National Executive Council (NEC) directive to re-run all elections there.
They accuse the National Executive Council of hypocrisy.
The executives have given the National Executive Council 48 hours to produce proof of the concerned judgment cited as the reason to rerun all elections in the constituency.
Clad in red armbands and head gear, the over 200 delegates and executives chanted songs and threatened to resist the decision.
Recently NEC of the NPP tasked former Chairman Peter Mac Manu and Minority leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu to conduct a re-run of elections in some 193 polling stations.
A March 13 date was fixed for parliamentary primaries.
However, NEC has ordered a rerun of all the constituency elections citing a supreme court ruling which nullifies the existing voters register.
The constituency executives disagree to this arguing that there is no such ruling and threaten to resist the move.
They have also asked their lawyers from Obeng-Manu Chambers to write to NEC copying all relevant arms of the party detailing facts and documents indicating that there’s no such ruling.
One aggrieved supporter of the party told Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor they are going to resist all attempts to force anyone on them.
“We will not accept any rerun in our constituency. We will fight them and we will cite them for contempt as the case is still in court,“ the supporter said.
