Confusion is reported to have broken out at the ongoing 44th annual congress of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) at Wa in the Upper West Region where delegates are electing new national executives.
Francis Kwabena Aboagye, SRC president of Zenith University College has told Joy News two student leaders have either been picked up by the police or have gone missing.
The election is being held at the University for Development Studies campus where Francis Aboagye is accusing the ruling National Democratic Congress and some members of government of seeking to tweak the election to favour a preferred candidate for the position of NUGS president.
Outgoing NUGS President, Wonder Madilo however discounted Aboagye’s claims and said he was out on a mischievous propaganda mission.
Wonder said he had reported an allegation of kidnapping to the police and assured that the police were in charge of the situation and hopeful of unraveling the ‘wild allegations’.
He also discounted claims that he was in league with the ruling party to influence the election of his successor.
The congress is under the theme: Managing the Complexities of Ghana's Democracy; the role of the Student. It kicked off on August 25 and will close 29.
