Mr Kwadwo Ampofo, aka DJ Black, is Africa’s second best disc jockey, according to MNet’s brand new showbiz news show, Studio 53 Extra.
DJ Black, affectionately called Mr Black, comes next to Nigeria’s IK, who, like Mr Black, demonstrates great dexterity behind the console.
Organisers of the programme say they went through a vigorous selection process, travelling across the continent to pick the most-listened-to DJs, and Mr Black was selected among a tall list of nominees.
But after a process that lasted several hours - even days, - Mr Black placed second, followed by DJ Fresh from the Republic of South Africa, Gaetano from Kenya, Toolz from Nigeria and Fareed from Kenya, in that order.
Another Ghanaian DJ Kwame, pulled the seventh ticket followed by Botswana’s Owen Rampa and Zambia’s Chishala Chotishi.
Chishala Chotishi from Zambia was ninth and Y FM’s Sammy Forson came tenth, making Ghana the country with the highest number of winners – three in all.
In a message from his iPhone to Myjoyonline, Mr Black said he counts the award as recognition of his effort.
“I feel honoured but I feel there is more I can do because I didn't get the number one slot. I feel proud to have been able to get this far that somewhere in South Africa, my contribution to the world of music is recognized,” he said.
The host of the Open House Party (OHP) on Joy FM says he is challenged to even do more to up his brand while making people happy.
For him, what may sound like fun for his audience is a real brand promo splurge for him.
The OHP airs every Friday at 8:00 pm.
