The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu has stated that Ghana will continue to grapple with under-development unless the country invests more resources to develop her people.
He said the discovery of oil and other raw minerals will advance the country’s quest for middle income status only if government devotes adequate resources to education.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu was addressing a delegation of the China-Europe International Business School in Kumasi, after signing a partnership deal to establish the Osei Tutu Centre for Executive Education and Research.
Luv FM’s Elton John Brobbey reported Otumfuo as saying that the increasing incidence of criminal activity was the direct result of the country’s inability to provide its citizens with decent jobs.
The Asantehene expressed the hope that Centre for Executive Education and Research will contribute to knowledge acquisition to enhance the development of Ghana.
“All the minerals that we talk about, the oil that we talk about, cannot transform this country and Africa unless we develop our human resource base and that is the only way to be able to advance this country,” Otumfuo said.
He said traditional authorities must move away from selling lands and adjudicating disputes and play a proactive role in developing the country’s educational system.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu warned that if chiefs and other leaders do not get involved and a large chunk of the population is consigned to illiteracy and its concomitant joblessness, the security of the ordinary Ghanaian will be undermined.
