Authorities of Kwegyir Aggrey Secondary Technical School are confronted with the problem of where to keep form one students when they report on October 15. Mrs. Patricia Klu, the Assistant Headmistress, told the GNA on Tuesday that the school did not have classrooms and dormitories for the form one students. The GNA noticed during a tour of the facilities with Mrs Klu that a private building the school has rented to be used as a dormitory for the form one girls was being plastered, and the doors and windows had not been fixed. There is nothing to show that the building would be ready for use by October 15. Work is progressing on the new six-unit classroom block being put up by the government to accommodate the form one students but the foreman said they would need one month to get it ready for use. Another rented house used as hostel by the girls has no bathrooms and toilet facilities and the girls have to wake up at dawn to take their bath in the open or go to nearby houses. The girls have to queue to use the school’s KVIP and an abandoned poultry farm shed was shown as the dinning hall whilst a make-shift structure is serving as a kitchen. The classrooms were not spacious and were over crowded. The school has no bus and relies on private buses when the need arises. Mrs. Klu said the school was established in 1993 as a community secondary technical school in structures housing a Middle School. She said a six-unit classroom block started by the Concerned Citizens of Anomabu about six years ago had been taken over and upgraded to an 18-unit block to be completed in 2011. Mrs. Klu expressed gratitude to Nana Egyir Aggrey, the Mpuntuhen of Anomabu, who had pledge to provide bathroom and toilet facilities for the girls’ hostel. She said student population was 1,200. Mr. Henry Kweku Hayfron, Mfantseman District Chief Eexecutive, said the school had to be relocated to a more spacious area to pave way for future development and appealed to the chiefs to release land for that purpose. He said the Municipal Assembly would do everything to ensure the school’s progress. Mr. hayfron appealed to the citizens to contribute their quota towards uplifting the school as an honour to the late Dr Kwegyir Aggrey, an illustrious citizen of the town. Source: GNA
