Education Minister Alex Tettey-Enyo will later today meet leaders of striking polytechnic teachers to try and resolve their grievances. The teachers have been on strike for the past three weeks protesting what they say is the poor handling of their concerns by the Labor and Fair Wages Commissions. Government earlier ruled out the possibility of sitting down with them insisting that the teachers submit to compulsory arbitration. The teachers who had earlier vowed never to comply because of some utterances by the Labor Commission have since softened their stance and the Public Relations Officer at the Education Ministry, Paul Krampah, is hoping today’s meeting will be fruitful. He said the meeting with the teachers does not invalidate government’s earlier insistence that members of POTAG must deal with Labor and Fair Wages Commissions. Mr. Krampah said the meeting is also aimed at correcting the impression that government is discriminating against polytechnic teachers by not including them in a committee set up to resolve grievances of university teachers. “Government is not biased at all. If you recall, polytechnics were actually given a rejuvenation during the era of NDC (National Democratic Congress) one.
