With barely a month to hit the road running with his 'Okyeame Kwame in Your Zone' nationwide tour, the 2009 Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year has revealed to Hi Newspaper reasons why he had to pause last year's nationwide Free Hepatitis B screening exercise, which was powered by his Okyeame Kwame Foundation.
"Lack of sponsorship at a time plus education was heavy on my mind. I had to concentrate on completing my University education (KNUST). Meanwhile my main source of income for the project was halted because I decided to stop performances to concentrate on my books". Okyeame Kwame, born Kwame Nsiah Appau, said.
"Each exercise costs about GH¢4,500 and we had planned at least 10". Meanwhile, Kwame hints "the 30 resource persons including 2 doctors, nurses and lab technicians who supported the project did it at no charge".
Before he stopped the screening, he had done two activations in the Ashanti region and one each in the Eastern (Nkawkaw), Western and Greater Accra regions.
Now with brand new resolve, energy and plenty of time available, come November 19, O.K starts his much anticipated 'Okyeame Kwame in Your Zone' nationwide tour from Sunyani.
27, while Tarkoradi ends the first segment of the quarterly activation on December 6. The team rests for a month and hits the .road to other regions in February.
On the format of this project, Okyeame Kwame outlines: "There will be a special screening session during the day and main concert in the evenings".
One Mic is pre-financing the screening and expects to raise some funds from well wishers and sponsors for a successful project, says the C.E.O of One Mic Entertainment. The tour is sponsored by MTN.
