Isaac Opeele Boateng has rubbished the decision to call Asamoah Gyan for this month’s friendly against Saudi Arabia.
The Sunderland striker is serving a two-match ban by Caf after being sent off during last month’s Nations Cup qualifier against Sudan.
This means the attacker will not be available when the Black Stars play their next competitive game against Congo in Brazzaville in March.
Coach Isaac ‘Opeele’ Boateng says the decision to call Gyan is ‘tragic’ as his position should be given to other players who are likely to play in the Congo game.
“I don’t know whose decision it was to call Asamoah but I think it is a tragic mistake to give him a call for the friendly,” Opeele said.
“The guy is serving a suspension and this means he will not play in our next competitive game against Congo.
“I don’t know why no thinking was in place for this but this is an unforgivable mistake. Tagoe and Amoah are the most reliable ones we have left.
“I don’t know why Tagoe was not called but it will serve Ghana’s interest well if Gyan is allowed to rest because he will not play in the Congo game.
“Tagoe must be given this game so that he can sharpen his confidence ahead of that important game against Congo.”
Prince Tagoe, who plays for German side Hoffenheim, is not part of coach Akwasi Appiah’s squad to play Saudi Arabia in Dubai.
