Ghanaian film makers and their counterparts in Nigeria have agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on what to charge when movies are done in both countries.
There has been a simmering face-off between movie makers of both countries ever since Gollywood introduced a $1,000 fee from foreign movie makers, especially those from Nollywood, in a bid to reduce the extent to which foreign movies had taken over the Ghanaian market.
Nigeria responded with a hefty amount for their counterparts in Ghana – an amount Ghanaian actor John Dumelo allegedly refused to pay when he was acting in Nigeria and was reportedly arrested.
Nii Odoi Mensah, President of the Ghana Actors Guild told Dorcas Mensah of myjoyonline.com that both countries are in talks to schedule a meeting where they would trash out issues.
Asked when and where the meeting would take place, he said “We are yet to finalise everything.”
Meanwhile, Actors Guild of Nigeria President, Segun Arinze , has also confirmed to nigeriafilms.com that plans are far advanced for both parties to have a final decisive meeting either in Lagos or Accra.
“We are brothers and we will forever remain brothers. It is a free enterprise; we just need to sort a few things out.”Arinze was quoted as saying.
