The Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central is building a 3-unit classroom block estimated at $60,000 for pupils of Asempaneye Primary School in the Eastern Region.
The facility will replace a dilapidated one in which the pupils were previously studying.
This is an extension to a previously built 3-unit block currently housing the about 300 pupils of the school.
A borehole and a KVIP are also being built on the school compound for the pupils and the community.
The MTN Foundation is partnering the Rotary Club with a contribution of GHS41, 450.
On Saturday, the Club, together with its fellow Rotractors and international partners from other Rotary Clubs in the United States and Canada, paid a working visit to the school to inspect the progress of work.
Speaking during the visit, the Club’s President Galina Okartei-Akko, said Rotary members are dedicated to providing community service to the underprivileged in society.
She revealed their plan to institute an annual school bag project where the Club would distribute bags filled with stationery to pupils in the community. That was demonstrated when each pupil was given a school bag which had in it books, mathematical sets and crayons.
Nana Ampem Darko, Chief of Asempaneye, expressed profound gratitude to Rotary Club and MTN for the kind gesture, asking them to continue contributing to the development of the community
The Rotary Club International is the world’s first service club organization with more than 1.2 million members who volunteer their time and talent to further the Rotary motto – service above self; while their partner, MTN Foundation, supports activities related to the development of people particularly in the areas of education and health.
