Ghanaian hip hop/hip life star, Kwaw Kese is currently in Haiti as an ambassador to support humanitarian works towards rebuilding that country after the devastating earthquake that hit it on January 12. Experts say the 7.2-rated quake is the 10th most devastating earthquake of all time and killed over 200,000 people and rendered several thousands homeless. Kwaw Kese, also known in as Emmanuel Botwe, has been in Haiti since September under the auspices of the American Embassy in Haiti. He will spend six months for the first phase of his work there but will go back again for a second phase of another six months, according to Fennec Okyere, his manager who told Myjoyonline.com in an interview Wednesday. The Artiste of the Year winner at the 2008 Ghana Music Awards has been tasked to collate information for the Embassy and also use his image and personality to talk (through a translator) to the many affected by the earthquake on issues regarding rebuilding after the quake. Fennec further disclosed that Kwaw Kese is the only African on that project. He said Kwaw has sold himself internationally, citing that Black Entertainment Television (BET) had to fly him from Haiti to attend the 2010 BET Hip hop Awards and honoured him with a front roll seat. “He was recognised as a hip hop artiste from Africa and Ghana for that matter,” he said. Fennec indicated that not only will Kwaw Kese do humanitarian work; the trip will also offer him the opportunity to gain experience and also expose himself internationally. Kwaw Kese flew to Haiti from the US where he has been busy recording songs for his upcoming album with some hip hop artistes including Memphis Bleek and Trina. The album is being recorded by Coptic. If things go as planned, Kwaw Kese is expected back in Ghana to perform at the 2010 Joy FM Night with the Stars.
