A Ghanaian student of the University of Idaho in the United States of America Hasiah Belloe, was the talk of the night at the University’s Awards night held in Moscow, Idaho.
Miss Hasiah Belloe took three awards in academic excellence and for her dedication to community service in the Moscow Community in Idaho State.
Hasiah, who was admitted to the University of Idaho in 2006 after graduating from the Achimota Secondary School in the year 2005, is now pursuing her Masters in Architecture.
She received the African Student Association Award, the Ismat Ara Sheikh & Abdul Mannan Sheikh Award and the Anjum Sadiq Memorial Award for the year 2010.
The African Student Association is an international student group that aims to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of Africans through activities and events.
The Award is in Recognition of active membership in the African student association, participation and assistance with annual African Night events, strong academic record-GPA, and involvement in campus activities.
The citation for the Ismat Ara Sheikh & Abdul Mannan Sheikh Award is for the “Recognition of merit on strong academic record-GPA, leadership and participation in University of Idaho campus and Moscow, Idaho community activities”.
This scholarship was established in memory of Ismat Ara & Dr. Abdul-Mannan Sheikh’s by their family to annually assist two deserving international students from any nation to purchase text or reference books.
The Anjum Sadiq Memorial Award is in “recognition of exceptional volunteerism on University of Idaho campus and in Moscow, Idaho community”.
This endowment scholarship was established in 2009 by JoAnn and Tom Trail, to recognize Anjum Sadiq and the impact she had on the lives of so many students, staff and faculty of the University of Idaho, as well as members of the Moscow community and beyond, which stemmed from her consummate volunteerism.
Hasiah Belloe who could not hide her joy, was elated and told Asempa News in an interview, the awards will spur her on to achieve more academic laurels in the University and return to Ghana to contribute her quota to the nation’s development.
