Juliet Dede Kumah, Hohoe District Director of Education has urged female directors, assistant directors and others aspiring to high positions in the education sector to demonstrate more assertiveness in their academic potentials to achieve their aim.
She noted that shyness, inferiority complexes, some cultural and traditional practices continued to scare female teachers of the numerous opportunities ahead of them.
Ms Kumah made the call at a collaborative meeting with Journalists at Hohoe.
She said currently there were only seven female directors out of 17 representing 41.2 per cent in the region.
Ten out of the 74 staff at the Hohoe District Directorate of Education are females representing 13.5 per cent.
Ms Kumah noted that spouses of some female educationists further compound the problem by placing impediments in their academic advancement "ostensibly for the fear of losing them."
"This is untenable and should not prevent them from achieving their full academic potentials," she added.
Ms Kumah called on spouses of female educationists to encourage them to aspire for higher laurels.
She advised female teachers to take advantage of the distance education programme to upgrade their knowledge and pledged to construct a Teachers' Resource Centre with support from governmental and non-governmental organisations.
Ms Kumah said there had been increase in enrolment with the introduction of the capitation grant and School Feeding Programme under pilot basis at Wli, Ve-Deme and Saint Francis Demonstration Schools.
She said results of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West Africa Senior Secondary School Examination in the district had improved.
