The fight against armed robbery has been given a boost as Prompt Security has devised a GPS based address system called Prompt Code that will enable police officers to identify a distressed caller’s location with ease and in a timely manner. Speaking to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on Joy FM's Super Morning Show, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Prompt Security, Kweku Baawuah said his outfit had captured streets and properties in Accra and Tema into their GPS data system while giving them codes, thus feeding the Ghana Police Service, Fire Department and Ambulance Service with locations of homes and businesses in these two cities. GPS is a space-based global navigation satellite system (GNSS) that provides reliable location and time information in all weather and at all times and anywhere on or near the Earth. This is facilitated by an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. Mr Baawuah hinted that in times of distress, all one had to do was call the police and supply them with the activated code. “We’ve displayed these codes on various properties in Accra and Tema; it’s green and white stickers…it’s a code which is in the police map or the police GPS in their vehicles, so when activated, when you need them (the police), all you need to do is to mention your code. You don’t need to give them any directions,” he stated. The CEO also revealed that his company has designed a vehicle tracking system (geo-fencing) which ensures that drivers of private or company vehicles do not go beyond a certain designated area. He said in the event of the vehicle going beyond the designated area, an alarm would be triggered and “whoever is managing this fleet, will be able to take control.” The activation of the code, according to him is GHC45 annually while a monthly fee of GHC10 is needed to keep it active.
