Legendary Hi-life musician, Amandzeba Nat Brew has criticized the country’s politicians for not being patriotic enough by polarizing Ghanaians through politics.
Amandzeba, speaking on Day Break Hitz on Hitz FM with Lexis Bill, said it is quite unfortunate that the people who are supposed to lead the way when it comes to patriotism are rather constantly polarizing the country through their political ideologies.
He said they are not showing the way in their day to day life, stressing that they have polarized the country to the extent that if one does not like the ideology of a particular political party, they will always be against even the good deeds.
“When you talk about personalities who are likely to be very patriotic, sometimes, it worries me, it looks like the politicians are not showing the way, they are not patriotic themselves. They find it very difficult to show that in their day to day life and that is leading to polirisation of the country,” he noted.
Empahsing that “If you don’t belong to one particular party, you must be against the other one irrespective of the good things the other party is doing. We need to do constructive criticisms that will build the nation up not to divide ourselves because of party politics.”
Notwithstanding that, Amandzeba urged Ghanaians not to look up to politicians but rather try in their own small way to be patriotic in whatever they do.
“Charity begins at home so in your own little way, in your own small way, in whatever profession you find yourself in, I guess that we can exemplify this virtue (patriotism). Some of the songs we sing, our behavior…we know that it takes a lot to clear the garbage off the streets…we spend money to clear them…”
He added that patriotism is the only means through which we can easily get to our destination. “I think that we should be making a conscious effort in imbibing the virtues which I think patriotism drives. Patriotism must be the vehicle through which we can get to our destination faster.”
