The DCE of Atwima-Kwanwoma in the Ashanti Region, Tony Nyame has accused Madam Felicia Anane, headmistress of Apatrapa Roman Catholic Primary School, also in the district, of political bias against him after the two bickered over the quality of food served by his wife to the school. The caterer at the centre of this controversy is the DCE's wife. Speaking on Accra-based Peace FM Monday morning, Mr Nyame said he was of the strongest conviction that the headmistress was New Patriotic Party (NPP) biased and alleged that she was on a mission to have his wife’s contract terminated in favour of another caterer he labeled also as NPP biased. He said his wife had been making incessant complains about Madam Felicia Anane, claiming that she nagged at the least opportunity. Mr Nyame cited an instance where the headmistress compelled the District Assembly to serve her school with soft drinks and chicken on the last day of school last term, even though he made it known to her that the cost of that meal was far beyond the allocated budget. He therefore questioned her motives, since according to him, Madam Anane always teamed up with some teachers in the school to start agitations instead of addressing her problems to the committee responsible for the National School Feeding Programme in the district. Early on the same programme, Madam Felicia Anane had explained that her school had been served stale food by the DCE's wife on Thursday, January 13, and she ordered the food to be returned since the food was not wholesome in her estimation. She said the following day, her school was served with a similar meal of rice and beans and her fear that the beans could be unwholesome from source, led her to invite the caterer over to the school to ascertain the quality of the food but she failed to turn up. Listen to Felicia Anane. This, according to her, prompted her to restrain her pupils and teachers from eating the meal for fear of suffering food-poisoning. She said her decision did not go down well with the DCE who stormed the school together with persons she described as “macho men” as well as some security personnel numbering about ten. The situation, according to her, degenerated into a verbal match and in the heat of the exchanges, the DCE threatened her with a transfer from the district. Madam Felicia Anane said it was later on that the two parties decided to settle the matter amicably after the DCE agreed to her submission that the food could be unwholesome.
