The African University College of Communications (AUCC) has launched its new business school. The school will focus on morals and leadership as well as core business subjects, the Dean of the School, Bernard Otabil, told the gathering at the launch in Accra on Monday. "Industry wants employees who are not just number crunchers but people who bring along a wide variety of skills and knowledge. "We will train students in things beyond finance and accounting," he said. Mr Otabil said the AUCC Business School would be unique in its approach because according to him, no other school in Ghana currently offers the broad curriculum they intend to run. The school, he revealed, would use contemporary case studies like the global financial crisis to examine ethical business practices as well as look at issues like tax evasion and avoidance. Mr Otabil said "AUCC has been originally involved in courses such as journalism and public relations but is moving into the arena of business because of the rising importance of business communications". The vice president, Prof Emmanuel Ofori Akyea, emphasised the importance of teaching morals within business education and said "the school will teach ethics and instil morals in everything we do". "Business cannot be excluded. It overlaps and informs journalism and communications," he added. Following the launch, AUCC held an open day, and allowed the media and the public to inspect the campus and ask questions on programmes available and their prospects for students.
