The Chamber Singers, a 32-member choir from the Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges of the US, are to begin a four-performance tour of Ghana from January 17 through 21.
A tour itinerary that has been released to the media indicate that the first performance comes off at the Kumasi Cultural Centre on Wednesday, January 17 at 7pm. Supporting the performance will be the Amamreso Youth Choir.
On Friday, January 19, the Chamber Singers will be at Cape Coast to perform with the support of the Cape Coast Festival Of Youth Choirs, and the next day, January 20, the choir will be at the Greenwich Presbyterian Church at Tema. There, they will be supported by the Tema Youth Choir.
The final appearance of the Chamber Singers will be on Sunday January 21 when they will join the Calvary Baptist Church at Osu, Accra, for their Sunday morning worship.
The Chamber Singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges are undergraduate students with a wide variety of academic majors who comprise the premier choral ensemble in the rich musical life of these two academically select liberal arts colleges.
The Chamber Singers have performed for a diverse range of audiences, from a capacity crowd at Washington’s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as part of the Millenium Stage Series to the children of homeless families in Help USA’s Genesis House in New York City.
The Chamber Singers have performed internationally as well, most recently in a 2005 tour to Poland, where they shared a concert with the Adam Mickiewicz University Choir.
In a 1998 tour to Caracas, Venezuela, the Chamber Singers performed with the college choir of Simon Bolvar University under the direction of IFCM Vice President Mara Guinand and composer Alberto Grau.
Recent Chamber Singers tours have also brought the choir to Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. The 2007 Haverford/Bryn Mawr College Ghana Tour Project has been funded by generous grants from a number of US college institutions.
