Building materials distributor, Antis Limited has donated food items to the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital at Adenta in the Greater Region.

Chief Executive Officer of Antis Limited Patrick Adjepong explained the gesture forms part of the companies Corporate Social Responsibilities to develop communities it operates in.

“This represents an extension of one of our core values of community and environmental friendliness,” he said.

The donation by the company comes at a time when the conditions of Ghana's mental hospitals have dominated the news last week especially following the indefinite strike of nurses at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

It is estimated that 2.7 million Ghanaians representing 10 percent of the population are suffering from mentally related illnesses.

The sector has been reeling from the effects of neglect due to inadequate support for mental health facilities in the country, a situation that is disturbing.

Mr Adjepong promised his organisation would continue to assist Hospital in the coming years.

Receiving the items, Director of the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital Frank Baning was appreciative, thanking the leadership of the company for the help.

He expressed worry over what he said is the neglect of mental hospitals in the country, urging government to review its policies towards the sector.

Mr Baning also called on other institutions and individuals to come to the aid of the hospital which he said is struggling to stay afloat.

In 2009, Antis Limited established another company called PS Investment Limited to specialize in the manufacturing of solid quarry dust blocks. This is in line with the vision of the company.
