Embattled rapper Nana Wiafe Asante Mensah known in showbiz circles as Asem, has been dropped from Lynx Entertainment, the record label headed by Producer Richie which produced Asem’s first album “Better Late Than Never”.
Lynx Entertainment announced the decision to part ways with Asem in a statement Tuesday.
The statement signed by Albert Mensah, General Manager of Lynx Entertainment, stated that based on recent events surrounding Asem, the rapper has been officially dropped from the record label pending further legalities which will be completed by the end of the week.
According to the release, the reasons for the action were as follows: "That Lynx Entertainment and Asem have had differences in opinion as to the direction his career should go; For the past few months, Asem has been under a new management and certain decisions taken by the artist and his new management have not represented the general image the record label wishes to portray; and Lynx Entertainment also feels that keeping Asem on the label could limit him from pushing his career in the direction that he sees fit."
According to Albert Mensah, the termination procedure is being done amicably, and henceforth, Lynx Entertainment will no longer represent Asem as an artist.
Asem was the first artiste to really project the Lynx Entertainment brand aside Richie the CEO. He had hit songs like the controversial “Give Me Blow”, the club banging “Pigaro”, “No More Kpanyo” and his latest single “2010 Fylla”. He was later joined on Lynx Entertainment label by female rapper Eazzy of “Wengeze” fame, biggy boy lover OJ Blaq, “U Say Wey Tin” hit maker Zigi among others.
Asem has lately been in the news for the wrong reasons, recently linked to an alleged sex scandal involving a teenage girl. The music star has denied the allegations and given hints that he intends to pursue the matter in court. The issue is currently under investigation with the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of Police.
Asem studied communications at the Ghana Institute of Journalism and had his secondary education at St. Peter’s Senior High School. He was until recently, one of the best artistes on the Lynx Entertainment record label.
He has been nominated for Hip Hop Song of the Year with his hit song “No More Kpanyo” for this year’s upcoming Ghana Music Awards. He won the World Bank sponsored “Music For National Development” Awards at last year’s Ghana Music Awards with his socially responsible song “School De Be”. He had his first award in 2009 when he won the “Best Discovery of the year”.
