The National Executive of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), on Tuesday, called on the government, the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to immediately start the negotiation process on teachers' salaries. The association also urged that the category two allowances be added to the salaries of teachers before March ending. It expressed regret that the salaries of teachers, under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) was still low, even after corrections of technical errors by the technical committee appointed to redress the issue. National President Paul Apanga during a press briefing, after a closed-door meeting by the executives, told newsmen the National executives after critically examining the report noticed it does not address all the concerns of teachers while the myriad of errors that came with the migration into the SSSS have also not been addressed. He assured its members that GNAT was solidly behind them and appealed to teachers to exercise restraint and go about their respective roles and responsibilities while the association seeks solution to the problem, adding that “we will do whatever is within our power to ensure that teachers receive their due”. Mr Apanga also cautioned politicians, media houses and the citizenry to be circumspect in their utterances concerning the impasse. Source: GNA
