Authorities of the Kumasi Girls Senior High School are optimistic a new dining hall will be ready for use when school re-opens next term to end running of dining on shift basis. Joy News reported two months ago about how school authorities had converted a 230 capacity small exams hall into a dining hall on shift basis for over one thousand eight hundred students following delays in completing a permanent dining hall project. School authorities are happy after several reports on the plight of especially students, the contractor has returned to site. Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah who first broke the story has been visiting the school and reports that the project which started about 12 years ago stalled, with only the floor and painting works to be done. The contractor abandoned the project site for six months and returned only after Joy News highlighted the predicament of students who take turns to eat at an improvised dinning hall. Some students protesting the deplorable conditions under which they ate, refused to take their meals. Ohemeng Tawiah reports workers of the construction firm undertaking the project are working round the clock to complete the structure. A library complex put up the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has been coverted to an examinations centre for this year’s West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASCE). The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Mary Ampofo expressed her profound gratitude to Joy News for putting the issue of the dining hall of the school into the front burner resulting in the return of the contractor. “The ceiling has been painted, he has started the terrazzo works…and there is every indication he is working,” she said.
