The U.S. Piano and Violin Duo, OPUS Two, will be performing in concert with members of the National Symphony Orchestra and Advanced Students of the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana on Friday, March 25, 2011. The free concert which starts at 2:00 p.m. prompt will be held at the Dance Hall of the School of Performing Arts. This concert is the culmination of weeks of workshops with both groups and forms part of the celebration of Women’s History Month. OPUS TWO Opus Two is comprised of award-winning musicians; violinist William Terwilliger, and pianist Andrew Cooperstock, who are internationally recognized for their “divine phrases, impelling rhythm, elastic ensemble and stunning sounds,” as well as their commitment to expanding the violin-piano duo repertoire. Opus Two first came to international attention as winners of the United States Information Agency’s Artistic Ambassador Auditions in 1993, leading to a 30-concert tour of Latin America and the Caribbean. Since then, they have given performances, radio broadcasts and master classes throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. Their latest recording, on the Naxos label, is entitled: “Bernstein: Violin Sonata, Piano Trio, New Transcriptions.” The Artists’ Bios Andrew Cooperstock is a graduate of The Juilliard School, and the Cincinnati and Peabody Conservatories. A winner in the National Federation of Music Clubs Artist Competition and the New Orleans International Piano Competition, he has performed as soloist or chamber player in most of the fifty U.S. states and been featured in recitals and concerto appearances at the Chautauqua, Brevard and Round Top international music festivals, the Australian Festival of Chamber Music, and in global centers in London, Hamburg, Geneva, the Hague, Riga, Canberra, Lima, Kiev, Seoul and Sapporo. Currently, he is a senior member of the keyboard faculty at the University of Colorado at Boulder and chair of the piano department at Rocky Ridge Music Center. William Terwilliger received his doctorate from the Eastman School of Music. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras in the U.S., Europe and Asia. As an orchestral musician, he played for five seasons with the Rochester Philharmonic, 17 summer seasons with the Brevard Music Center Festival Orchestra in North Carolina, was concertmaster of the Boulder Colorado Bach Festival Orchestra in 2005, and has been concertmaster of the Long Bay Symphony, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, since 1999. He was appointed to the faculty of the University of South Carolina in Columbia in 1999, where he is professor of violin.
