Musician Wanlove the Kubolor and his Afro-Gypsy band has been selected by the Institut Français and OIF to be one of three artistes of the Equation Music stage that will tour some European countries from the end of May through to the middle of June 2011.
The two other artistes also named for the tour are Winyo from Kenya and Bélo from Haïti and they will perform in Germany, Italy, UK and France.
Speaking to Hitz Entertainment News, Wanlove said, he was excited to be apart of the four nation tour and the fact that he is the only Ghanaian selected is most thrilling.
He revealed that he was selected for the tour because of the result of the three-month residency programme in Paris which he won last year.
“…because of my three month residency, I [have been] selected to be part of this tour because they had a gist of the music I recorded whiles I was there (France)…We are on tour in Europe from the end of May to the middle of June,” he revealed.
That programme resulted in the recording of 16-track Brown Card – African Gypsy album with his Afro-Gypsy band which was launched on March 12 at the Alliance Francaise. The album was recorded in France and produced by Panji Anoff of Pidgin Music.
The tour dates and venues for the Equation Music stage includes June 3 - Würsburg Africa Festival, Germany; June 5 - Auditorium Parco della Musica (Suona Francese), Roma, Italy; June 7 - London/Richmix, England; June 9 - Bordeaux / Rocher de Palmer, France; and June 12 - Angoulême - Musiques Métisses, France.
Wanlov disclosed that he will be leaving the country in May for the tour. He said he will also be performing in his native Romania including other unconfirmed venues.
