Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday arrived in Abuja, Nigeria to participate in the 39th Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Heads of State Ordinary Summit.
The two-day Summit in the Nigerian capital, would among other issues consider the report of the Council of Ministers and the 2010 annual report of the President of the ECOWAS Commission and also the report of the 28th Session of the mediation of the Security Council, which met to deliberate on the crisis in Ivory Coast.
The West African leaders would also consider the memoranda as relating to the review on their decision suspending Guinea and Niger as well as the request of Chad seeking an observer status on ECOWAS.
The Summit would offer the Heads of State the opportunity to consider the report on the Adhoc Ministerial Committee on the allocation of statutory positions in ECOWAS institutions and appoint the next Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State for the next year.
Vice President Mahama during his three-day stay in the West African State would also hold bilateral discussions with other African leaders, the business community and strike agreements on other areas of cooperation and development.
The Vice President is expected to return to Ghana on Thursday, March 24, 2011
