Veteran actress, Anima Misa Amoah, known for the movie Love Brewed in the African Pot, has bounced back onto the movie scene after 20 years absence.
Anima, playing the role of Mrs Doris Adams and a mother of three, stars as lead character in Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s latest work, Adams Apples together with her satirist brother, Kwaku Sintim-Misa.
After starring in Kwaw Ansah’s Love Brewed in the African Pot released in 1980 and Heritage Africa released in 1989, not much has been heard of the unique actress, prompting many to conclude that she might have probably retired from the industry or taken the back seat.
But while she kept quiet on the local scene, Anima was internationally active, intermittently writing and performing plays such as Aisha; Friends Forever; Survivors and her favorite In The Name Of The Children for BBC Radio in mid 2000.
Unique dialogue
Speaking in an interview with Myjoyonline.com after a special screening session of Adams Apple at the Silverbird Cinema, Thursday, Anima said she was ‘forced’ to bounce back due to the way the story appealed to her, as well as the dialogue.
“For every actor when you take a script, you look at the character that you are supposed to play, you look at the dialogue, you look at the whole story in general and generally if it appeals to you, then you say yeah I will do it.”
“It was pretty much the same because Shirley sent me the script and said can you read this and see if you are interested in the character and for Shirley, her dialogue is absolutely fantastic. We look like good actors on screen because of her dialogue. Because they are so natural to you that it will be like how I am talking to you.”
For her, it was exciting and she counts herself fortunate to feature in the movie and also to be working with the ‘young’ Shirley.
“For me, it is also the experience of working with somebody young and somebody contemporary because I have had the experience of working with giants, like Kwaw. I feel very fortunate to have been able to be on either side…it’s been fantastic.”
